I have often looked out at solitary trees in the middle of a baron landscape, walking up hills and mountains, including my favourite places around the Peak District. Often one comes across a tree, wondering how it got there and why it would choose to grow, when others have perished along the way.

These trees can make me feel that we do at times alone and isolated from the world, our friends and family, even more so during the first and now second lockdown.  People often look for solitude in nature and the hills and mountains, this project set out to find those spaces and lonely trees. Stark against the bleak landscape in which it lives, often stunted and deformed.
